Chirrups, founded by Insectipro Ltd., is one of Kenya’s first edible cricket snack brands. Crickets are a high-protein, sustainable alternative to traditional proteins, requiring fewer resources and producing lower carbon emissions. While cricket consumption is common in parts of Western Kenya (kumbekumbe), Chirrups sought to introduce this nutritious snack to a broader urban audience. Our challenge was to create modern, eye-catching packaging that made crickets feel exciting, approachable, and marketable.
To bring Chirrups to life, we designed playful cricket mascots with a fun, urban personality that made the product feel engaging and approachable. These mascots served as the brand’s visual ambassadors, helping to soften the idea of eating crickets while adding character and energy to the packaging.
Beyond the mascots, we used a bold, contemporary aesthetic, featuring vibrant colors, dynamic typography, and modern layouts that gave the packaging a fresh and exciting look. We also integrated subtle cricket-inspired elements throughout the design, ensuring the product stayed true to its core identity while remaining stylish and appealing to a wider audience.
